My Top Ten Commandments Of Being A Blogger
I have never written a post like this, but today I feel like making a ‘blogger advice’ post, where I’ll speak about my experiences, and what I have learned in those three years I’ve been blogging. But first, let me share what the ten rules of being a blogger are :
CHOOSE A GOOD NAME FOR YOUR BLOG
I love the name I chose for my blog even though I didn’t know which name to choose at first. I’m very complicated when It comes to choosing a name for any project I come up with. I can spend a whole month searching for appropriate name for my project but will still end up with none. So I’m glad I came up with my own name for my blog ” Carly Skincare“. Don’t be like me lol. You don’t want to spend your life feeling embarrassed or confused every time someone asks you the name of your blog. Most importantly, you need to feel proud when you say it (and remember, you’ll say it many times in your life !).
REASON WHY YOU WANT TO START BLOGGING
My husband is a master web developer and has designed several websites for companies, radio stations and Tv stations. He wondered why I have passion for beauty and skincare and yet never thought of having my own blog where I can share what I know with others through writing. So he one day asked me if I would love to blog? Of course I would love to! so I did. He created my blog for me and I started right away. I’m not so much into making videos or plenty talk, but I can surely put all my thoughts into writing.
Probably the most important of all. I started it because I’m obsessed with anything beauty and skincare, and I had no idea I could make a living out of it. I never knew creating a blog to talk about skincare and beauty is the best idea!
So know why you want to start blogging and you’re good to start!
KNOW YOURSELF (IF YOU WANT TO BE A BLOGGER)
If you don’t have passion for writing, find yourself a friend who loves writing. Millions of people out there are waiting to hear your thoughts and opinion on certain topics. Maybe, It might solve their problems. If you mess up, acknowledge it. Poke fun at yourself. Find others who want to hear what you have to say, no matter how silly you are.
DEVELOP YOUR OWN VISUAL IDENTITY
To be honest, I’m still working on my own. You can get great inspirations on Instagram and Pinterest! Best post Ideas that catches readers attention. Don’t over-copy others.
SURROUND YOURSELF WITH LIKE-MINDED BLOGGERS
This industry is crazy, and believe me, you will come across people who are not friendly to mingle with, so it’s super important to have friends who will always have your back. Some bloggers will become close friends, and some won’t, but being around positive people is life changing.
YOU WILL HAVE TO INVEST TIME AND MONEY AS A BLOGGER
Be prepared to work, and a lot. Being a blogger means you need to take pictures, edit them, post regularly, write posts, answer your emails. I always end my work day at midnight, but when you love it, it doesn’t feel like work. You also need to invest in a good camera, trust me, it will be a life saver ! Don’t worry, most of my pictures are my phone camera and trust me, I love them.
CREATE THE JOB YOU DREAM OF
As a blogger, you will be independent. Be different. Don’t compare yourself to anyone. Be yourself. Be confident. Read a lot. Make research. You will be the master of your agenda, so don’t feel like you have to be like everyone else. You can also feel free to message bloggers in your niche and Collab with them.
BE PREPARED TO FEEL DISAPPOINTED
Not all the time of course but once in a while, you’ll feel like your work doesn’t pay… Maybe you won’t have as many likes or followers as you’d wished, or maybe not as many contracts as others. It’s normal, and every blogger feels a little down sometimes. Don’t forget, you’re not alone !
DON’T EXCLUDE YOURSELF FROM REAL LIFE
Honestly, blogging can take so much time, but it’s important to spend time with friends and family who are not in this crazy industry. It’s such a breath of fresh air, and for me, it’s very important.
BLOGGING HAS TO BE FUN!
Enjoy your life, enjoy what you’re doing, and don’t forget that it’s a very cool job !
